Cabbage Patch Kids
Cabbage Patch Kids are a line of soft sculptured toy dolls sold by Xavier Roberts and registered in the United States copyright office in 1978. The doll brand was one of the most popular toy fads of the 1980s and one of the longest-running cabbage franchises in the United States. The characters appeared in many other Cabbage Patch merchandising products ranging from animated cartoons to record albums to board games.

Creation and development
According to Roberts, as a 21-year-old art student, he utilized the quilting skills he learned from his mother and the historic technique of "needle molding" to develop his own line of fabric sculptures. He called these hand-stitched, one-of-a-kind, soft fabric sculptures "The Little People". (Other soft sculpture dolls dating back to the 19th century were created using similar needle molding techniques.) His Little People were not offered for sale, but were "adopted" each with their own individual name and birth certificate. Instead of paying a purchase price, buyers of Little People would have to pay an adoption fee. The Little People were first sold at arts and crafts shows, then later at Babyland General Hospital, an old medical clinic that Roberts and his friends-turned-employees converted into a toy store, in Cleveland, Georgia.

The following is an abbreviated version of the origin story Roberts came up with for his Little People:
"Xavier Roberts was a ten-year-old boy who discovered the Cabbage Patch Kids by following a BunnyBee behind a waterfall into a magical Cabbage Patch, where he found the Cabbage Patch babies being born. To help them find good homes he built BabyLand General in Cleveland, Georgia where the Cabbage Patch Kids could live and play until they were adopted. BunnyBees are bee-like creatures with rabbit ears they use as wings. They pollinate cabbages with their magic crystals to make Cabbage Patch babies. Colonel Casey is a large stork who oversees Babyland General Hospital. He's the narrator of the Cabbage Patch Kids' story. Otis Lee is the leader of the gang of Cabbage Patch Kids that befriended Xavier." (This discovery legend would be reproduced on every Cabbage Patch Kids product from 1983 onward.)

Coleco years
The name change to Cabbage Patch Kids was made in 1982 when Xavier's company, Original Appalachian Artworks, began to license a smaller version of the handmade creations to a toy manufacturer named Coleco which began mass production the same year. The Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids had large, round vinyl heads (originally of a different, hard plastic), and soft fabric bodies, and were produced from 1982 to 1989, many at a factory in Amsterdam, New York. The first two years production was all from the Far East, with nine head variations produced and computer-matched with bodies to ensure each doll was "different". It was, in fact, a marketing ploy that worked quite well as a wide range of variations resulted. At the peak of their popularity, the dolls were a must-have toy for Christmas. Parents across the United States flocked to stores to try to obtain one of the Cabbage Patch Kids for their children, with fights occasionally erupting between parents over the hard-to-find dolls. In later years, Coleco introduced variants on the original Cabbage Patch Kids, and derivatives of the original line of dolls continued to be marketed.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I now offer gift wrapping for a fee. Please contact me and tell me if you want Holiday, Birthday, blank colored paper, etc. I love to wrap and will make it look cute! I send small items like jewelry in a small gift box. I send wrapped dolls in recycled doll boxes, wrapped, then placed inside another box.

Special Info on Haunted Dolls

#1) Haunted Dolls are for Adult Collectors, not children. Please do not buy anything haunted for children. I will not sell to those under the age of 18
#2) Spirits are just like people. When you purchase a haunted doll from me, it is an adoption. Give it some time, and lots of love, and you will get back exactly what you put into the relationship. Your experience will depend on many factors, I suggest researching haunted dolls and the phenomena surrounding them to be sure you are ready for the commitment. I can not and will not guarantee that your doll will "perform" for you.
#3) I am not responsible for any paranormal activity you may experience when you invite a spirit into your home. Please research prior to adoption.

UPDATED RESERVED POLICY

I can hold dolls, jewelry, or anything for up to 6 weeks on Reserve. I will have you put the item in your cart and I will change the first photo to a sign that says "Reserved" and I will put your name and the date on the title. If you need more time, or chance your mind, just email me. The most important factor, to me, is that the spirit and caregiver make the proper connection. If you are not feeling it, please UNRESERVE and give that spirit a chance to find the right connection.

Payment Arrangements or Layways

No layaways or payment arrangements. We no longer do lay-away or payment arrangements as of 3/1/2017. However, we do reserve dolls for up to 6 weeks or longer, and we can also do custom orders

Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade, arts/crafts supplies, and vintage (over 20 years old). Etsy provides a SECURE checkout with buyer and seller protection, similar to PayPal. The cart is SSL and offers several ways to pay, including PayPal. As an approved seller/store I never see your credit card information.

International Customers PLEASE READ

International packages will be shipped First Class International Mail which can take from 2-6 weeks to receive. If the item is over 4lbs, it will be shipped Priority Int'l, which is more expensive, but faster. Please be patient when ordering to receive your item and note that there might be VAT OR CUSTOMS CHARGES that may apply upon receipt of the order which the customer is solely responsible for.

Sending in Dolls for Evaluation or Makeover

EVALS: If you think your doll is haunted, please contact me to discuss it PRIOR to mailing them in. Once a doll has been sent to me, unless we have discussed an alternative option, I will sell the doll on my shop after the evaluation. All dolls sent to me are mine to keep, unless we discuss otherwise. If you want an evaluation and your doll sent back to you, please email me so I can make a custom listing for the return shipping to you.
MAKEOVERS: If you have a doll that you love but it is falling apart or otherwise needs a makeover, please email me PRIOR to sending it in to me. Makeovers are done on a case by case basis, and are paid for before you send me the doll.

USA SHIPPING:
I offer Priority Mail, which will get there fast, usually within 2-3 days. PRIORITY MAIL gives you real-time tracking and insurance.

If you prefer your packages to be shipped in a different manner, please contact me beforehand so we can make arrangements.

OUTSIDE OF USA:
Under 4lbs will go First Class International, and over 4lbs will go Priority mail International. You are responsible for VAT and customs charges where applicable.

Returns

If your order was broken during shipping, or had some other flaw that I did not mention in the listing, please contact me and I will take care of that. I do not accept returns for haunted dolls, all sales are final. I will work with you on any other issue that you might have. Returns for items that do not fit (clothing) or if you just changed your mind, will incur a 15% restocking fee. Buyer pays the return shipping, with tracking. I am not responsible for lost packages you send to me.
